Asking for your signature, not money

It’s Olivia Troye — it’s officially been one week since I launched my Democratic Campaign for Congress, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the support this Substack Community has shown me.

Look, here’s the reality:

I’m not your typical candidate for office. I’ve never run for anything before. I’m not connected. I’m not rich. I have no famous last name.

That means this is a campaign that can only be won with a committed grassroots movement made up of people like you. We’re going to need an outpouring of support to help Send Courage to Congress.

So today, I have a different kind of request from you. I’m not asking you for money, just your signature.

Will you add your name to the list of Democrats who are backing my campaign to stop MAGA’s unchecked power in the House?

I know what it means to defy expectations.

I’m the daughter of a truck driver and a Mexican immigrant. I learned how to speak English by watching Sesame Street. I helped save my mom from abuse at the hands of her stepfather.

No one expected someone like me, a little girl from El Paso, TX, to graduate high school, much less an Ivy League college, but here I am now.

I defied expectations when to become one of the very few women to be a Senior Advisor at the Pentagon.

But in 2020, when I knew I couldn’t stay quiet about the corruption, the cruelty, and the chaos inside the Trump administration, I resigned. And I didn’t go quietly.

I put everything on the line to speak out against Donald Trump.

Trump and his MAGA cronies have never forgiven me for telling the truth and standing up for our democracy.

They came after me with everything they had. They sued me, tried to bankrupt me, and even threatened to kill me. They thought they could silence me. They failed.

But now, Trump is back, and so is that same corruption, cruelty, and chaos. And it’s even worse than I could have ever imagined.

So it’s true that I’m not your typical candidate for Congress. But these aren’t typical times – and we need leaders to have stood up to MAGA before — and won.

That’s why I’m running for Congress — to stop the total reign of terror from Trump and his MAGA cronies.

I’m building this campaign from the ground up, and I’m already facing an onslaught of attacks from the far-right. That’s why we need 20,000 supporters to add their names endorsing my campaign by midnight tonight. Will you step up and be courageous with me?
