"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided that greenhouse-gas emissions from American power plants have "no material impact on global climate change." Well, that’s convenient. Fossil-fuel power plants produce roughly one-quarter of America’s carbon emissions."

I urge your readers to review the issues of Acid Rain over the NE due to 1000-foot coal burning plants in the midwest and the damage to bodies of water. The increase in NOx and SOx affects everything - water, structures and of course, human health. Of course, human health is tertiary with this evil group. Zeldin, brought in to destroy the EPA, will be contributing to his constituent's health on Long Island

Acid is rain is on their own damn site

https://www.epa.gov/acidrain

Thank you, Olivia

I guarantee Zeldin is getting rich from fossil fuel companies, and probably Russia too.

NO QUESTION - everything is a quid pro quo

The Russian connection is becoming stronger and more open! They are feeling comfortable with it and not hiding it anymore. This is because Congress gives no pushback and the authoritarian is being accepted. People are feeling “there is nothing I can do, so I’ll just try to live my life”. That is how they want us to feel and we can’t. We must resist.

It is hoped that we can change congress in November before Trump destroys the world.

By voting for people you are trusting them to be your guardian and your voice, but this group have been totally irresponsible and have failed us in every area. Health, security, safety, clean air, all have been taken from us for their selfish gains! PLEASE VOTE IN BETTER PEOPLE!!

Please share with everyone that https://ballotpedia.org/Voter_registration will explain that in most states 16-and17-year olds can REGISTER to vote. While they can't actually vote until they are 18, it won't matter where they are - college, military, posted to another state or country - they don't have to return home to register or remember to register before they go. It would be helpful, as well, to remember that 16 and 17-years olds are usually high school students, some in their sophomore year. So, it's not necessary to wait until they've finished high school to share the information.

Every week, after 7 days of insanity I tell myself "next week will be worse". I've yet to be wrong

I will say this again: Believe it or not Trump isn't what's most disturbing. After all he's just one guy; one rogue; one impossibly dumb, cruel, racist POS. Those types are a dime a dozen.

What's most disturbing is that 70-80M Americans would STILL vote for him again tomorrow including farmers whose markets he's destroyed; people who he wants to take healthcare away from; and believe it or not more than a few blacks, Hispanics and gays. Fuck you Tim Scott.

Kennedy says he's going after chemtrails? The crowd erupted in applause.

It's hard to watch these guys. But it's absolutely heartbreaking to watch 70-80M Americans still support this. "Hurt me! Then hurt me MORE dear leader!"

"Wut? They're lying about the deaths and bases that have been blown up in Iran? So what. Biden's fault"

America: What are we even DOING here?

No one, no institution, no entity is more responsible than Fox News. I don't know how we ever come back from this

William Darian Boggs's avatar

You're right that the president is just one useful idiot.

The institutions that have defected to him have thrown us under the bus: some elite universities; many top law firms; the Congressional GOP; journalistic institutions like the Washington Post, the New York Times, CBS News, ABC News; corporations like Amazon, Meta, Dell, Google, Home Depot, and Palantir; corporate leaders like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and Mark Zuckerberg; and numerous other business leaders.

There will be an aftertime, and we will never forget. They weren't there for us, and we won't be there for them. Also, we are spreading the word that those companies are toxic, so many more people will shun them, out of disgust and out of fear of the consequences of associating with them.

Law students won't want to work for the traitor law firms because of the black stain it will put on their resumes. Journalists won't want to work for the traitor news organizations for the same reason. School districts won't buy equipment and services from the traitor vendors because of the public backlash. Philanthropy from the traitorous corporate leaders will be toxic to nonprofits, and they will refuse it.

On the other side, those who stood by us will benefit. Organizations like the Associated Press (Gulf of Mexico) and MapQuest (Lake Ontario) will receive our patronage. Individuals that stood up to the president and the regime will receive honor like Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Joyce Beatty, and numerous others, named and anonymous.

It's too soon to know how history will judge these traitors. Historians wait about 20 years to evaluate people, entities, and events. In this case, that will allow a full condemnation of the traitors. So the real question is how much worse history will judge the traitors than we do today.

Hal Bogotch's avatar

We may want to be careful about using the word, "traitor." It's being thrown around recklessly by those in power.

Your sentiment, we 100% understand! (How in the world did Donnie DarkMatter get away with January 6th [2021]...?!)

William Darian Boggs's avatar

Good point. Betrayal is a more accurate term than treason. Treason implies an action that justifies extreme legal punitive action. Betrayal is more damning because it signifies a greater transgression. The greatest crime of Benedict Arnold was betrayal, though he was a traitor. Treason can be pardoned; betrayal cannot be pardoned. The Confederates were pardoned for treason, but it didn't touch the betrayal they remained guilty of to their graves.

Mike's avatar

Some of that is true: WaPo has been hemorrhaging readers. Maybe NYT too. CBS is entering their Find Out stage. Tesla has been badly damaged not just by Musk's insanity but also the Cybertruck ... the new millennium's Edsel.

But Google, Amazon, Dell and Apple ... people are too dependent on them. I detest Tim Cook but to switch to an Android would be massively disruptive.

And I don't know that Home Depot has experienced any backlash, have they? Law students want jobs and a nice offer from Paul, Weiss et al ... they won't hesitate

I think that just as we've been monumentally disappointed in the minimal consequences they've suffered so far, we'll be disappointed in the minimal consequences going forward.

Life rarely wraps things up as nicely as we'd like. To take an extreme example, post WWII we all know about Nuremburg but fact is a most Nazis escaped punishment

William Darian Boggs's avatar

I agree that things don't wrap up as nicely. We have to strive for the best possible.

Already I avoided Home Depot because I don't want to fund Christian nationalism, but since they allowed ICE to seize people from their property, I haven't been in there.

Corporations depend on consistent profits, so even a small decrease in revenue from boycotts can cause a drop in their stock prices. Rolling boycotts are especially disruptive because they can't staff for them, and they waste money from lost sales and overstaffing.

Corporations like Google depend on getting top candidates. With their reputation so tainted, they still get candidates, but their competitors get the better candidates.

The same is true for elite law firms. Those who are allied with Trump still get good candidates, but the other firms get the better candidates, who they face in court. Also, in a competitive industry that depends on reputation, a small drop in reputation translates into an exodus of attorneys and customers, since customers follow attorneys.

Young attorneys joining the DOJ right out of college are executing a major career limiting move. Not only are they joining a massively corrupt organization, but they are joining an organization with much lower win rate. They won't be able to escape that reputation because federal prosecutors should win almost all their cases. So future employers are likely to ask what's wrong with DOJ prosecutors and look elsewhere.

So my point is that big organizations are affected significantly when the rest of society shifts away from them in significant but not overwhelming degrees.

Look at Target. It has suffered massively since the corporation stopped affirming LGBTQ and minority groups even though the revenue decrease was not massive. It may not ever return to its previous position because customers have moved on to vetter companies.

Mike's avatar

I'll just take one of your points: Law Students.

Hearken, if you will, back to when you were 24. How much did you care about politics? And yes, I know this is more than just politics, but that's the way a 24 year old will see it.

When I was 24 (in 1978) I wasn't a law school grad, but I had a college degree, was working my first job in downtown Chicago and pretty much only cared about girls, sports, and beer.

Add to that this: Young people historically don't vote. Period. Their minds are elsewhere. The graveyard of national politics is filled with candidates who counted on young people to show up. McGovern, McCarthy, Gary Hart (he had some other issues too), Beto O'Rourke. Others.

SHOULD they care more about working for a company that's a moral failure? Yes, of course. DO they? Not so much. They want a paycheck and to get laid.

Understand the 'treaty' offered to Greenland/Denmark has two major issues, 1) the 1951 treaty, rectified, abided, already eliminates all adversarial forces. 2) Like Canadian Trade Negations, one part is TRump, an unfaithful, double dealing, lying low-life known for replacing promised texts with all new texts incorporating full subrogation clauses. We can expect this shit show to be the same. Gollum TRump wants 'my Precious Greenland' and cares not how much blood is sprayed across the ice to get it as long as his fake news cameras never report it.

Ongoing thanks to you, Olivia, for all you continue to contribute to our awareness and action!

Al Draycott's avatar

Thanks, Olivia: Jeez, the Trump administration has built up and financed one of the largest state police forces in the history of the USA. The ICE Gestapo, and yes, the Gestapo. They are the spitting image of Nazi Germany's state police force. Apprehending, incarcerating, murdering and deporting American citizens, primarily black and brown immigrants. Arresting or apprehending folks with no due process under the guise of "The worst of the worst." Hermann Göring created the Gestapo in April 1933 after Adolf Hitler took power. Heinrich Himmler and his deputy Reinhard Heydrich took control of the force by 1934, merging it deeply with the SS and the Nazi security apparatus. Stephen Miller, Tom Homan , Markwayne Mullin and others who participate in this vile action are no better than the slime of the earth. Masked-up, armed Gestapo agents ramming into vehicles, assaulting, pepper-spraying, and murdering folks is just a vile stain on the nation. How many folks have perished in these deplorable concentration camps, eating bug-infested, maggot-rich food, drinking putrid water? Sorry for the rant.
