Respectfully, I don't ever want anyone in the US to fight like Republicans do, or have done over the decades that have brought us to this moment. I wish DEMS would work more to their strengths - leveraging the varied achievements and tireless efforts of individual leaders (Jamie Raskin, Chris Murphy, Melanie Stansbury, Andy Beshear, James Talarico, and many others, including younger leaders and former Republican voices like yours) around the country - focusing on shared values but not MAGA-esque group think (which I'm sure is not what you meant). How to translate that into massive voter turnout and rejection of the trump regime, I'm not sure, but I'm glad you've joined the fight as a candidate.
That mountain shrine should never be dismantled or disrupted! Screw the wall. Ow Miller wants to get people out who got in legally? These people are just hypocrites and racists. As far as the voting shenanigans, it is probably best to vote in person to know your vote is going to count. If you did not vote in a primary, you should make sure that you are registered and information is correct before November.
Every week the Trump administration does something that makes me say “How is this legal?”. We really need someone to stick Trump and Miller in a cell and throw away the key.
I follow news sources closely and only through you did I learn about the suit against the Catholic Church. Obviously this administration does not believe that anything is sacred. Thank you for exposing this.
I’m not sure the current Democratic establishment will ever learn to fight Republican’s on equal terms. Time for the next generation - like Graham Platner in Maine. The Republican’s are a malignant cancer; the Democrat’s are a benign one. One is evil, and one is merely better intentioned…how’s that working for the rest of us?
Olivia, once again, a great read on what used to be peaceful Saturday mornings. This is my First Amendment Right opinion:
2026 - this evil man has all of his tentacles out to rig 2026 including Cleta Mitchell, https://cpi.org/staff/cleta-mitchell/, who has developed what they call, "Project 2026" designed as a cookbook to hijack the mid-terms. This is an evil woman put in charge by the corrupt administration and we must erect guardrails or walls to block this.
2028 - this evil tyrant is not leaving the WH on his own. You heard it last night in his 'speech' in Suffern NY for that creek, Lawler. This comes to fruition and the para-military tries to protest his ouster, THIS TIME YOU CAN EXPECT CIVIL UNREST AMONGST THE MAJORITY. THERE IS NOTHING THIS EVIL ADMINISTRATION IS GOING TO DO. PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE.
My fear, which you describe well, is that Dems will blow a golden opportunity through unwillingness to listen to new voices. Deeply entrenched Dem leadership is very jealous of their position and fearful of losing it.
Really good column today. You're becoming one of my fave faces on the national scene.
The blame for Kamala's loss is not simply explained. She gave them ammo with some stunningly bad soundbites. The "They/Them" ads showing her support for inmates to transition, laughing off not having been to the border and saying she wouldn't have done anything differently from Biden ... just stunningly bad.
No one gets more blame than Dem voters. >10M of them didn't vote.
There's a howling, rabid, dangerous compulsive lying baboon as the other choice and ... you don't vote? Because "she laughs too much"? OK.
THIS is the Dem party; we don't know how to fight. There's no one we won't purity test to the Moon, and if anyone thinks we won't do this again in '28 ... c'mon. I'm already seeing Newsom, the candidate with the strongest voice of any of them, get torn down by Dems. We've failed TWICE now to elect two highly qualified women for impossibly stupid reasons; and WE are the the party of women, diversity, etc? IRO: In rhetoric only
I'll tell you something else: We'll never rally behind a Jew, a gay or a brilliant person like Mamdani, in a national election. We will SAY all the right things, but in November ... forget it. So Pritzker, Shapiro, Mayor Pete ... don't bother. Your own party will shank you
This party, MY party, has big problems. The purity testing voters and the Schumer/Hakeem-ization are killing us.

Right on Olivia.

Olivia, thanks for pointing out how truly horrendous and cruel this green card policy is. Just another white supremacist insult to our nation.

Another outstanding piece. I always learn something from you, and I enjoy learning! Thanks for the cafecito time! I look forward to it every week!
