Thank you for your weekly insights, Olivia. You are a breath of fresh air and you don’t hesitate to take on difficult topics. Keep up this great work!

“Selected” passages from the bible translates to what aligns with their politics and their agenda. Now that’s indoctrination!

Black Pearl (Slava Ukraini)'s avatar

Ezekiel 23 springs to mind... There are so many unsuitable passages in the Bible - unsuitable for devout Jews and Christians, let alone those of other faiths!

Elizabeth Bellock's avatar

Chantal - I'm a Christian and this still nauseates me! The government has absolutely NO business injecting their version of acceptable faith into people's lives. Let individuals choose...the fundamentals of the seperation of church and state.

Vote in November. Even if Trump and Pulte declare fraud, our voices need to be heard. What other option is left to fight the lies and corruption of our government?

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

There are plenty of other options in addition to voting, and you don't have to wait till November (or local primaries) to make use of them. Start by making it easier for other people to vote, e.g., by supporting local groups who provide rides to the polls (for those who vote in person). Find out where the polling places are in your area. If they're hard to reach for people without cars (can't be reached by public transportation, if there is any), call that out -- it's often a technique in Republican-run states to suppress the urban vote, which tends to be Democratic. Contact local organizations (like the League of Women Voters if there's a local chapter) to see how you can help out. Etc.

Elizabeth Bellock's avatar

Susanna - thanks for this reminder that there are things we can do before November. I'm going to contact League of Women's Voters ASAP!

Exactly, Ellen. We need to vote in numbers Too Big To Rig. A 50 percent turnout (our max for midterm elections) ain’t gonna cut it this time. We need to emulate the Hungarians, who toppled their dictator with 79 percent. We can do this! 💙

Elizabeth Bellock's avatar

The bigger the turnout, the more resounding the "volume" the more the results can't be doubted. PLEASE tell every Dem to vote....every vote will matter!!! And, thank you Olivia for staying on top of the issues and keeping us all informed, especially about the things we may have missed. Thank you. thank you, thank you!

Great news about the increase in use of solar and the decline of coal. Wouldn't it be ironic if someday we could run our all of our air conditioning by solar? Having said that, I have to admit that the record heat waves we're having this summer are scary. Can't say we haven't been warned.

One of the week's most disturbing items is the Administration employing the 'scare' tactic authoritarians use. This one by the president claiming Communism infecting this country and its so-called, 'consequences'. Free housing, squallers, etc. Just disgusting tactic. Aside from the outright TPS racism. Thank you for my Saturday morning! Mexico looks good but wary of the group's competition

Ellen Brown's avatar

Especially when he declared Communists are Godless. What is Trump’s faith 🤔

Paul Schwartz's avatar

He has none. He placates his wretched hypocritical Evangelical fraud base, that donates money including that whacko woman religious advisor.

Cheat, grift, racism, steal, multiple marriages, convictions - not the basic tenants of religious behavior. Disgusting

Ellen Brown's avatar

Could not agree more. Vile and despicable.

Jim's avatar

No! He called Democrats "godless communists".

Elizabeth Bellock's avatar

Trump has no faith other than in himself....he thinks he's God.

thanks Olivia . Government should just get the hell out of women's health concerns, Pro abortion or Anti abortion should have no bearing on a woman's health. I don't see OGBYN's writing government policies. This administration has also got its claws into the dept of education trying to instill their sickness into the students minds, a mild form of brainwashing. Dictating what you can and can not read, using the courts to abuse their foes. They are into everything except good governance. It's hard to imagine living in Texas been forced to read scripture in your classroom. Only in a White Christian Nationalist state.

Cherae Stone's avatar

The Texas ruling has me heartsick and furious. And Venezuela . . I can’t even imagine. Thanks for staying on top of this, my dear. I look forward to your posts.

Thank you, once again Olivia, for your insights, your integrity, and your commitment toward our country!!

From your extensive government experience (especially in DT 1.0), we are grateful to get an inside look at how these decisions are being made and implemented.

As for Texas’s new law, what an outrage!!

The government has no business demanding schools have to follow one religion. This is the antithesis of our founding principles! How can they get away with this? Why aren’t more people reporting about this egregious abuse of our democracy and constitution!

I have way, way, WAY too many T-shirts, but now I want one that says ESTAMOS CONTIGO on it. Doesn't have to specify who "tú" is. ;-)

I love that solar continues to expand! We installed solar panels about 5 years ago, and note they are popping up everywhere. Despite Trump's disdain for alternative energy, we quietly march forward.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Same here! I'm in a blue area of mostly blue Massachusetts, but I love seeing all the solar panels in the neighborhood I moved into last fall. I'm impressed by the stats Olivia provided.

Yay Solar! Did you see the interview with Tara Palmieri and a Republican congress woman who needed an abortion - in FL there is a 6 week hard NO to abortions. She was calling her government officials in the middle of the night to try to get her abortion even though he is "pro" life. Sic. I think you can still see the interview on Tara's Red Letter sub stack., not sure though.

Boy, oh boy do we need SCOTUS reform big time! The illegal 6 are destroying our country as much if not more than tRUMP himself. Term limits ASAP, (although we don't want any changed in this moment when donnie dumb, dumb could put in even worse people! More judges at least 13 to match the districts, OVERSIGHT with enforcement!

Olivia, Our own government has for decades been willing to indict individuals who have never set foot in the United States. Since the mid-19th century the Supreme Court has said a person forceably snatched, indeed, kidnaped in a foreign country can be tried in the U.S. China is not alone in this long-arm statute.

Don Hamilton's avatar

Olivia, The TPS ruling does not in and of itself disrupt the live as so many people. The court said that “temporary” means “temporary.” Of course, any administration must have the right to end temporary protected status. The problem is that the administration is being intellectually and morally dishonest in saying that things are just fine in Haiti or Venezuela. The real issue is the incoherent blob of laws and policies governing immigration.
