Karen. Thank you for so eloquently reflecting the depth and breadth of Olivia's thoughts. It could not be said any better. Both (in their own way) are indeed the finest examples of patriotism, honor, integrity, and truth. Sadly, something no longer existing in most of Washington.
Kudos to you, Olivia, and to Joy. Your post here is exquisite testimony to your and to Joy's integrity, intelligence, wisdom and commitment to authentic dialogue. Thank you very much.
Olivia. Thank you for your bravery. Thank you for sharing this about yourself today. Until last night, I was completely unaware that Joy's show was not only being canceled, but that MSNBC was foolish enough to not have found her a new, more prominent spot; instead letting her go. I too was glad to see Rachel calling out MSNBC for their decision. I'm sad & outraged. I didn't know who to tell this to at MSNBC. I don't want them to think they can do this in the dark of night, Trump-like, with no one noticing. Please pass on my anger, specifically to the new President of MSNBC, to the extent that you were able. Listening to Joy was the FIRST time I believed that the media could actually tell the full truth. Losing her is a huge loss for MSNBC. It's also a huge loss to Joy's audience who wanted the truth from all angles.
I also want to speak out about MSNBC's decision to cancel Alex Wagner and Katie Phang, both great hosts in their own right. These too were very short-sighted decisions on MSNBC's part.
Olivia, please keep speaking out. Our country needs you! To Joy, I will MISS YOU!
We need her to stay, to speak truth to power…. She did just that when she addressed what she felt about what went down…. I think the higher ups got the point just fine. I am confident Joy will find her way to where she wants to be. She is a Harvard grad with talent & a light that shines bright.
This article is an inspiration! I knew Joy Reid’s face and occasionally saw her on tv, but I did not know her. Thank you for the introduction. She will resurface. Determine Women like you and her will find a way to be heard. I look forward to that conversation.
Thank you Olivia for this article as well as your incredible journey from your beginning life to one who consistently has challenged the idiocy and danger of those in power. I so admire you and your truth-telling. Thank you for supporting Joy Reid - as Rachel Maddow has. Joy has never shied away from difficult and painful subjects - particularly those highlighting our American tragedy of dealing with racial injustice. I pray she find a vehicle to continue to speak truth.
Olivia, you always belonged. You earned the same Ivy League degree as the trust fund babies in your class. Let's look at the bright side for Joy, Alex, and Katie. THEY'RE FREE. No more network executives looking over their shoulders. Now they can join independent media.
We have a lot of brilliant and amazing women out there. It seems women have the"DAWG" in them that we need. Be well and stay safe,
What you say is so true! It seems that women are the ones to speak the truth and lead the way! Thank you to Olivia, Joy, Alex, Katie and all of the tellers who will help our country get out of the mess we are in.
Thank you Olivia, I have watched you over that last few years on Deadline Whitehouse and other places. I have admired your courage to speak the truth to power, and to challenge those of us who are more on the progressive side of politics. Thanks for sharing your journey as the daughter of a truck driver and an immigrant mother. I didn’t know any of that. So, thanks for sharing. Wishing you all the best as we seek to navigate these next four years. Rev. Ken Ribe
That’s quite brilliant, actually. Two brilliant, well-spoken women, having mutual respect for each other, and each representing polar opposite parties, coming together to share insights (and possibly differing perspectives) of the daily news. I’d watch that “show”.
If we do that, it will lead to further authoritarianism! I say let MSNBC know what you think about what & how went down…. They need to grow stronger, making better decisions….
Brian Roberts considers Comcast a family business. He has been a reliable donor to Democrats. Send comments to him directly about this decision at MSNBC: it can't hurt.
Thank you for your comments about how much you respect and admire Joy Reid. I was really upset that her show was cancelled. She always manages to tell difficult truths with honesty and humor. I will miss her show!
This is excellent! I'm a bit behind on my reading, but I never delete your posts and save then to be read later. I agree with you about Joy Reid and share your disappointment that MSNBC cancelled her show. Thank you for standing up for her and with the precision you used to describe her strength and courage and integrity. Your voice, too, Olivia is extremely important. Keep speaking truth to power. Keep learning.
Your columns are all informative and very worth reading, but this might be the best of all. Thank you so much. P.S. Love that photo! P.P.S. Whenever your autobio comes out, I'll buy it.
Olivia: You and Joy Reid are the finest examples of integrity and speaking truth to power. You are the real patriots and I respect you both immensely.

Ditto. Respect them both immensely.

I'm disappointed Maddow didn't walk out. That would have sent a message!
She's a millionaire BTW, she'd be fine.

I would be lost without her!!

Thank you for supporting Joy Reid and standing with Black Women. As an Afro-Latina, I am grateful for your voice and Joy's in speaking the truth.

So powerful, Olivia! 🩷
Good luck to you both in your new endeavors. Maybe you should actually team up!!!

Thank you. 🙏🏾
This is so f*d. How do we speak out at MSNBC?
Drop Comcast, and stop watching!
Well, I don't have comcast and I don't watch, so that would be ineffective.
If we do that, it will lead to further authoritarianism! I say let MSNBC know what you think about what & how went down…. They need to grow stronger, making better decisions….
