I’m Olivia Troye—a former Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor to Vice President Mike Pence, career national security professional, and the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and a lifelong cross country truck driver.
I grew up in a working-class family in a border town. I understand firsthand how federal decisions travel far beyond Washington—into communities, into kitchens, into our everyday lives.
I later sat inside the highest levels of power throughout my career and during Donald Trump’s first term in office. I witnessed how fragile democratic guardrails can become when ego overrides ethics and institutions bend to political pressure.
This space exists because I’ve seen what happens when politics loses its center.
Here, I connect politics to people, and people to consequences.
I break down what’s happening, why it matters, and what often comes next. My analysis is grounded not in punditry, but in lived experience: interagency crisis rooms, classified briefings, and the hard lessons of watching institutions tested from the inside.

Why I’m Doing This
I blew the whistle during Trump’s first term when I witnessed an erosion of norms and a growing willingness to bypass crucial guardrails. That experience—including the threats to my family’s safety and loss of livelihood—forever changed how I view the balance of power, and convinced me it was critical to speak out, even at great personal cost.
I believe this country’s greatest strength is the commitment we share to protect it. My goal isn’t to sensationalize, but to expose dangers as I see them and offer clear-eyed analysis you can trust. Every day, I’m reminded how fragile democracy can be—and how each of us can make a difference if we stay informed and engaged.
