I hope you won't mind Olivia, that I put a link for folks to sign a petition (since you are from TX I hope you won't). It's to stop the wall that tRUMP wants to put in Big Bend NATIONAL Park! It's stopped for the moment but we all know that may not be the end of it. So here it is: https://nobigbendwall.org/sign-the-petition/ You do NOT need to live in TX to sign!

I’ve been to Big Bend and it’s a magical place. I don’t mind at all. I grew up in El Paso and I’m very upset about what they’re doing to that national park! So thank you!

Colleen Wetteland's avatar

Oh, good! Thank you for letting me know it was okay and that you too are behind these efforts to STOP tRUMP from VANDALIZING Our National Parks!

Thank you, Colleen! Petition gladly signed from California. I grew up in Texas and treasure Big Bend, one of the crown jewels of the Lone Star State.

You are welcome! I've never been there but I live close to Rocky Mountain National Park and absolutely hate what this regime is trying to do to our parks!

Punkette's avatar

So do I, my sister. 😢 I live just up the road from the iconic Joshua Tree National Park, which is also on the chopping block. My heart breaks for our threatened public lands - parks, forests and coastal areas, to name just a few. I know that lawsuits will be filed to protect these precious areas, but our legal system moves so slowly, and the fascist regime won’t comply anyway. They will destroy it all for the almighty dollar. It’s a terrible time and I grieve for what we are losing.

Oh, cool. I've driven by Joshua Tree N. P. I didn't have time to stop, I guess I should have made time! I'm with you 100%! We NEED our National Parks and to the extent that they are still native our native lands. Think of the animals and birds who migrate! Any STUPID wall would hamper them! I'd actually like to move to Murrieta, CA. I'm getting too old for our winters!

"What Does Anti-Terrorism Money Have to Do With Your Ballot?"

The many fingers of the Administration trying to rig the elections. Pure extortion! C'mon Congress, all this crap out!

Good morning, Olivia!

Am I the only one who thinks there's a better than 50/50 chance they steal the mid terms?

Whatever they're planning, it will make J6 look like putt-putt golf.

And I have zero confidence in the Dems ability or even willingness to stop it.

This country has totally lost its way. Bannon does a podcast where he openly talks about stealing it. No consequences. In Brazil, Bolsonaro tried to hijack an election and now he's in jail for 27 years. South Korea: Yoon Suk Yeol tried to invoke martial law. Life sentence. Trump/J6: We reelect him

And here we are, lining up to reward the J6 criminals. And the Dems (including Dem voters who routinely don't vote) other than a few, are completely unwilling and unable to stop it.

I really think we are in End Stage America. Healthcare is a bad thing. Kindness and compassion are signs of weak. We are led by weak grifting white men. If the political criming doesn't bring us down, this ridiculous debt will. By the 2028 it'll be $50T and there's no way to stop it. No one wants to run on a platform of austerity that might begin bringing the debt down.

1. Tina Peters is heading to DC to meet with Lutnick and others and I believe it has to do with Emergency Declaration possibilities

2. Convicted felon Bannon continues his tirade to declare an emergency to cancel elections

3. It to me appears that this is the pathway the administration is headed.

4. Grab your guns, there will be Civil unrest in this country like no one will believe

Afraid you’re right.

It was the best of times for 240 years

Now it’s the worst of times

Wanna know who could have ended this?

- Merrick Garland

- The 10M Dem voters who didn’t vote

- Mitch McConnell (not that anyone ever expected anything good from him)

- Fox News, after getting thoroughly embarrassed into paying almost $1B for lying; could have pivoted away from this shit

- The Court of Clarence who’s enabled it all

We’re becoming a failed State

I think there could easily be street fighting, and, if it happens I'll probably be caught up in it. I'm going to get a military-grade first-aid kit, like the ones White Stork has been sending to Ukraine.

Robot Bender's avatar

Not a bad idea. I wouldn't really know what to do with it, though.

I got some pretty decent training when I served in the Coast Guard and I plan to take a first-aid course before summer is out.

Olivia, thank you for introducing us to your amazing friend and former colleague, Julia Curlee, and for sharing her story in the Atlantic. I just read it and am moved to tears. I pray that when Democrats regain control of the three branches of our government, Julia will be asked to return to her former position, and that she accepts. She is an extraordinary American - brilliant in her career field, a brave and dedicated public servant, and a treasure to our nation. Julia represents the best of us, and we need her! In the meantime, I send love and grateful thanks to Julia and her family.

P.S. As you wrote, kudos to then-VP Pence for treating Julia with the professionalism and respect she had earned. I admire him for that.

Thank you for your work as always.

And thank you for your shout out for Julia-- it is not what you are, it is who you are and what you do that matters.

After all this news, we will need a musical horse to come to the rescue!

I live in Scottsdale, AZ—the headquarters of Axon. Ironically, the question of whether to dump our Flock cameras is in front of/plaguing our city council now. So far they have refused. After reading this, I wonder if we do dump Flock as many citizens would like, we will switch to Axon.

I read Julia Curlee’s story earlier this week. We used to be a country that had compassion and respect. By all accounts she was an excellent employee. She was doing her job with honor. One of my fears is after the midterms we will have Proud Boys and Oathkeepers roaming our streets. It’s sad and frightening.

Your question about the watchdogs is so important, Olivia--thanks for sharing it here. One group that I've learned about that is doing critical work in this day and age is Whistleblower Aid https://whistlebloweraid.org/ ). I don't think it's nearly as robust as our internal watchdogs were, but I think it serves a very important role now, given the situation we're in.

Thanks too for introducing me to Julia--I look forward to reading her article!

And Yupia, the harp-playing horse?? OMG, whoda thunk?? Thanks for closing out the mostly dismal news (exception--TX turning blue for Talarico!!) on that cheery horsey note!

LOVE you and what you tell us! We are so fortunate to have people like you to go around the headlines and stupidity (the latest being yet another vanity project the car race in DC today! Thank you always!

I love Yupia! ❤️

Thanks, Olivia! Always enjoy the Saturday covfefe, and now I have to hear that horse play music! 🐴🎸

Thanks, Olivia: Love that harp and the horse. Talarico is the go to fellow, Texas will be lucky to have him in office. The treatment of Blerim Skoro by the US government, along with ICE, is deplorable. He is just the type one would need to infiltrate various terrorist groups; a convicted drug dealer is a qualifier.

Olivia, referencing your initial posting about deportation of a Kosovo resident who spied for this nation. DHS/ICE is so stupid. Sometimes to integrate, you need that "scummy, sleazy bravado". We are so stupid. Thanks for posting as well as the next issue, deporting Iranians back to Iran. LOL - so stupid.

Paul Schwartz's avatar

Love ya, Olivia! I as well - I saw the DOJ just hired back an election denier. To me, it will not be poll intimidation, it will be conspiracy theories and possibly USPS mail in voting and denial of ballots

Thank you for your regular and courageous commentary. I appreciate your keeping hope going in the facve of a uniquely evil leadership. I admire your positive energy, it is not wasted but keeps a candle burning in the hearts of many silent viewers .
