For those coming home from military service, homelessness has been a consistent problem in our country. That service, at least for now, is voluntary. Shelter should be provided for anyone who serves. It’s the least we can do.

Thank you for bringing attention to all the veterans losing their homes. It’s a disgrace. Tax the billionaires.

I read a few years back with the 20 year war it would not be able to afford to take care of veterans. Bush lowered taxes trump gave tax break to wealthy. After midterms Americans will start feeling the cuts. Veterans have been loosing housing. Just not getting reported on state owned news.

If you want to help the service people who were told to get out of the Middle East with only a few hour's notice, you can donate to the Navy Marines Relief Society. Many had to leave with only a suitcase or two, leaving everything else behind.

Another great piece Olivia!

This administration will go down in history as the most corrupt, heartless and shortsighted one in history. What they’ve done to veterans is unforgivable. As you pointed out when speaking about Bondi and the purge in the Pentagon, nothing will protect anyone from being screwed over. The same administration that will spend billions in a war won’t take care of the veterans once they come home. Someone needs to walk around Washington ringing the “Shame Bell”🔔

Another great Saturday morning. Now, I loathe Pamela Jo, the pride of Stetson University Law School, but how disgusting being told you are fired and have to sit through (some) of the SCOTUS hearing. This creature will continue to make tons of money. She is just an evil person willing to break the law for one idiot. Happy Easter

PS - any Veteran who would consider voting for this Administration, between the housing and the firing of competent persons in the military AND the Christian Nationalism / minority targeting deserves what they get. So shameful!

They’ll vote for more of this shit.

The % of vets, especially the younger ones, who got radicalized by watching Fox News 24/7 at their bases is significant.

I was a soldier for 23 years. I was a professor for 20 years. In many ways, I'm so damn glad to be away from all that now. I would be insanely mad instead of just mad like I am now. By the way, Chaplain Collins can kiss this veteran's ass!

Good column, as usual.

And the EB picture is wonderful. I laughed.

Isn’t it perfect? I’m gonna copy and keep that one.

Thank you Olivia for all you do for us. A truth-telling voice amidst all the noise. We, your loyal readers, are grateful.

Loved your advice to Pam Bondi. She should show him the same kind of loyalty he showed her.

I've seen zero mainstream media coverage of this fact: the U.S. Coast Guard didn't get the same reprieve TSA agents got.

They are now in the second month of not getting paid. Nor are any contractors working for them. Nor are new recruits at Cape May, NJ.

The Coast Guard is the 5th service branch of the U.S. military, with dotted line reporting to the Department of Defense. Unfortunately, their primary home is DHS.

My son spent 11 years in the Coast Guard. I'm glad his family isn't going through this experience. But thousands of others are. Thanks, Republican hardliners in the House.

They. Do. Not. Care.

And it’s unbelievable that so many still support this horrific regime! They don’t read credible sources, and they have their heads in the sand. Family members included. It’s really awful.

On veterans losing their homes:

This is a natural extension of Reaganomics: Slash social services, tax cuts for the wealthy supporters, BOOMing deficits. W: Same. Trump: Same

We were always gonna get here. I’m 72 and if they slash my SS and Medicare, I’m in trouble. But there are only 10s of millions of others like me.

So … no big deal

Even Nixon, who’s widely despised, had enough empathy to want to create a national healthcare plan.

When Bondi was fired I said to my husband exactly what you said—TIME TO TELL EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT TRUMP.

Let’s see if she has the guts.

Cherae Stone's avatar

I’d bet on the Easter Bunny instead!

Mike's avatar

Zero chance.

She’s been a ghoulish, deep Trump supporter forever. Took a payoff as FL AG to not join the class action suit re: Trump University.

Trump thinks he is the smartest person in every room and when his players don’t accomplish what he wants it is always their fault, never his! Now, Pam and Kristi have found out their time is up! Those military personnel are a different story because Hegseth is such an insecure religious zealot and has so much bigotry towards race, gender, body image, etc. It is a loss for the military and probably for the country, as well. It makes us weaker.

Happy Easter Olivia to you and your family. Blessings God is good.

This was one of your best pieces. Hegseth firing those generals screams racism and sexism firing the black general who was the Chaplin. For what? What purpose was that? Because you want to get rid of D.E. I.? Racism is thinking the black guy has to be there because he’s black. Because it’s D.E.I. Why cant he just be there because he’s really good at his job. He fired a woman because she was a woman. He’s said women shouldn’t be in the military. And he fired a general a great general. Because he was around Biden. He’s very timid. If it’s based on merit. Then why not keep the black general if he was doing a great job or the woman. Or the other general?

Bondi got what she deserved and what she should expect. He has no shame. And she played coverup. She should make it right and tell what she knows. For those victims. Maybe she can do a podcast with Marjorie Taylor Green Law and Order.

Thank you Olivia.
