Last time I checked 77 million people thought it was a-okay to store classified docs in bathroom. I guess they carved out an exception for the dear leader.

The warrant had to be signed by a judge. What evidence did they give to justify searching an uncharged third party?

An excellent post, as usual. I really appreciate your insightful commentary on the increasingly authoritarian behavior of the Trump Administration and hope people wake up to the danger it poses.

Okay, now it's apparent that we are living in a police state. Please explain the discrepancy between your careful statement that "the journalist is not the target" and Mr. Patel's post that says, "the alleged leaker has been arrested and is in custody." Perhaps the "leaker" is someone like Pete Hegseth, who once used the free Signal app to narrate classified military actions with a startled journalist? The America that I know and love has been taken over by an administration that is at best incompetent to protect our fragile democracy. God help us.

Why didn't the judge issuing the search warrant demand documentation and evidence that searching the reporter's home was justified as per the 4th amendment requirements? How was a warrant possibly issued without evidence of wrongdoing by the target of the warrant? Will the WaPo be issuing a legal response and lawsuit for violation of the 1A and 4A?

Pretty interesting the reply from the FBI was a bit vague, I guess for a reason! This is ridiculous on so many levels. Invading the privacy of non-government people to just "check" or stop something whether it's conjecture or not. Instead of doing it the "right" way, (just like so many other things) they preferred to break the law and use draconian methods to cease personal property!

Thank you for your incisive reporting on the latest line crossed by the trump administration.

As you say, this is another significant line that is crossed, this time under the cover of the last line that was crossed, which was the murder of an obviously innocent white woman.

Where next is the question?

Will they dare in extra judicial execution of a white man?

Will he put full time on duty troops in the streets and order them to fire on american citizens?

Will he move to confiscate the weapons that are owned by his own rightwing supporters?

In the subtext of all of this is what is in the Epstein files?

If WAPO has any vestiges of cohones left it would unleash its full legal arsenal against this. Democracy doesn't die in darkness, it dies when eyes are averted...

Thank you...you reporting this is an important sounding of the alarm. My task; stay aware, don't look away and don't believe the regime's bullshit.

Another excellent article during these chilling, dark days. Hope our democracy survives!

Despicable. This is what happens when corrupt people are put in charge.

"The administration declined to pursue an aggressive investigation when highly sensitive military information was disclosed through senior officials’ communications. Yet it moved swiftly and forcefully against a reporter who did what journalists are supposed to do: verify information, protect sources, and inform the public."

Right. Because having the DUI Hire share SCI materials with his hooker GF, drinking buddies, and a reporter from the Atlantic... whatever... right? As long as you're willing to lick boot and kiss ass... not a problem.

God forbid you actually write something that suggests you're a douchebag... that we can't have.

Guy can take a beating, but he can't take a punch. What's worse, he wants everyone else "prosecuted" for the crimes he says others committed, but he ACTUALLY committed and was going to be held to account.

I think, however, we can't say "well the journalists are all that's left." No, that's not the case. Yeah, the IGs are gone because Congress is a bunch of cowards. The committees aren't functioning because Congress is a bunch of cowards. The guardrails are gone, because CONGRESS IS A BUNCH OF COWARDS.

It's not all just him. The Renazicans of Congress saddle up, put on their bib, and eat an endless fecal buffet from Orange Caligula.

They are responsible here. They are accountable here... as well. It's not just all him. He's a lightning rod to be sure...

... but it ain't all on that fatass orange sociopath.

"Yes, we raided her home and took all her devices ... but ... she's not a target"

For the LOVE OF GOD ... can these people even do their damn laundry without lying?

The nation turns its lonely towards YOU, Bezos (some call you Penis Head; I won't). Maybe I've missed it but seems he's said NOTHING. Working on his next rocket and keeping the Silicone Barbie happy

Imagine being as smart and skilled as he is, superior in every way to Trump. You built billion dollar companies; you're worth hundreds of billions. You've built rockets, for God sakes

And you're scared of a mean tweet.

Cowardice is gonna kill us. Both sides journalism is gonna help. Cillizza, Smerconish and Chuck Todd, the Katzenjammer kids of (bad) journalism. If you're not offended by an unarmed American citizen, a mother, getting shot 3 times in the face over nothing, you got issues boys.

Instead Smerconish runs insipid polls like "Was the Renee Goode murder justified?" Chris Cillizza today: "This ICE Minnesota thing might not be working" MIGHT NOT? Haven't heard from Chuck yet; probably a good thing. Our nation thanks you

These both sidesers are worse than blatant liars like Fox, Rogan, Poole, Scott Jennings, et al ... they operate under the guise of appearing "fair", "non partisan"; or more accurately "can't take a side; might lose 3 followers" At least Fox et al makes no pretense.

But ... that's not the worst. Because there's always worse. Worst is the 30% of Americans who say she should have been shot. "She deserved it".

Thank you for your strong stances Olivia.
