How in the hell is that even legal? Isn’t it a historical building? And, the People’s House. 😡

It’s not. It’s lawfare.

The felon in our White House doesn't feel at home in a pure, graceful, historic masterpiece. He must destroy beauty, and history that he didn't star in. He must gold leaf and tart up the hallowed halls of the People's house in order to feel comfortable.

So be it.

We will watch the horror show, and when it is over, we will put back our home and our democracy one precious piece at a time.

I believe he doesn’t want to end the shutdown ever because that “pesky” branch of government gets in the way of his decrees. I’m holding my breath too because ICE bought war arms. Once he starts shooting citizens protests will stop. Hitler was successful at all these strategies. And No Kings has added deadly fuel to his need to dominate and control. Aided and abetted by his henchmen. 😭🇨🇦

Olivia, you are superb! Are you in an undisclosed location somewhere within easy driving distance of where you want to go in El Paso? You are not in El Paso I hope. Certainly not at a widely -known location. We need you. Don’t take unnecessary chances. Keep up the good work carefully.

Thanks Olivia. I see the demolition of the East Wing of the People's House as a metaphor for what he's doing to our Democracy. Tear down and destroy the "structures" of our republic and replace them with crap that he thinks looks better than it functions. Case in point, Lindsey Halligan. Not legal, and can barely fill her position.

The demolition is DEVASTATING! As you emphasize, as the strongmen fall the people stand. We, the people, must continue to fight for our democracy!!!

We should demand the document granting the approval for this structural change be released publicly! If they don’t have approval everything must stop. I m not sure the process was completed. Release the document that this construction has been approved

This construction has NOT been approved. Such changes require the approval of a historical committee that he never consulted; or at least, there are no reports that he did.

So incredibly depressing. Is there nothing this administration won’t do? And do we, the part of society who IS paying attention have any recourse? I used to think that we’d somehow find a through. Now I’m not so sure.

Edit to add I do agree w everything Olivia says, but right now I’m having trouble seeing good triumph over evil. But I will hold on to that.

I am now officially numb. Every day a new horror perpetrated on the American people by a deranged and narcissistic president. No earth shaking opposition from the Democrats, no sane Republican arising from the ashes to save us and no relief to be seen.

The most recognizable symbol of democracy in this country along with the Liberty Bell, now being transformed into a Vegas hotel. Shocking? Not at all.

Thank you, Olivia, for this important post. The mind boggles at the extent of the regime’s wanton demolition and destruction of our beloved country. Take good care of yourself and enjoy your time at home in El Paso with your family and friends. Eat comforting food! 🌶️

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty"

--incorrectly attributed to Thomas Jefferson, but true nonetheless.

We have been subjected to a slow-motion coup since Donffrey Trumpstein's first term in office. What the MAGA acolytes used to assert against others without evidence, they now practice openly and wantonly. Don't just sit there as a spectator! GET INVOLVED! VOTE as if your life depended on it, because it does.

How is it even possible that this tasteless, crude SOB can get away with this?!? He said all presidents have wanted to do this. What ignorant BS! And ... we don't need or want a big piece of the White House funded by these soulless oligarchs.

For the time being he controls the guys with the guns. When the judges see the law as I learned it half a century ago, and as you seem to see it now, and make that clear it will give the military at every level the ability to say “No.” The liar in chief cloaks himself in legal verbiage while he violates the spirit and letter of the law. He gloats in reminding us that we gave him the power to rape us, and he said he would do it, and we handed over power to corruption, and now he’s doing it. He asks: “What did you expect?” Or something like that.

We didn't necessarily hand him the power. First, there were all the GOP dirty tricks: caging, mass illicit purging of voter rolls, elimination of mail-in ballots, closing of many polling places, and so on. Then, vote buying and possible voting software hacking, after Elon bragged about how easy it would be to do it and Rump told his base they'd never have to vote again.

In short, I absolutely don't believe Rump was actually re-elected. Not that that makes dealing with the ongoing debacle any easier.

The abhorrent disregard for the law and the judges not enforcing it seems like a reason more Americans didn't stand up on No Kings day. Where were the 22 million about to lose healthcare? I absolutely cannot even believe things have gotten this far and no real backlash from the Democrats. Only a few handfuls of them talk about what's happening but definitely not enough!

It’s not backlash from the Democrats that’s needed. It’s backlash from We the People. The Democrats, following the rules for the most part, can’t do much until We the People demand justice. The depth of the corruption ultimately resides in us, as does the ability to return to the land of liberty and justice for all, that we never really had. If we accept the lash upon us, it will continue to be used.

I agree 100% but the Dems also need to start standing for something!
