Well written Olivia 👍

I will share this with my friend in Palestine, who conveyed to me that they don’t want Trump coming in and taking over the Gaza Strip. I don’t doubt this is a transactional move by Trump. If only he really cared about human lives like he does money and power. If he did, Jan 6 would not have happened

I totally agree, on all points.

Remember when Jimmy Carter was trying to bring back the American hostages held in Iran? And then we learned that the Reagan people were "negotiating" secretly about NOT releasing them until Reagan won? He did, and the hostages were released within minutes of Reagan being sworn in?

This feels the same. I give no credit to Trump. This is a real estate deal brokered by Witkoff. As we were told months ago. These people give no shits about humans, only land, money and beneficial deals.

These hostages were used as they were 45 years ago. I would love to be proven wrong, but with these players, my cynic-o-meter ramps up to 11.

Trump is better dealing with delusions than he is dealing with reality. I won’t hold my breath waiting for success where he is involved.

Excellent piece Olivia.

I always appreciate your insight. Thank you!

I’d just like to add that President Biden didn’t strut, crow, and dislocate his shoulder patting himself on the back. I miss his humble presence.

The peace will last as long as Trump and his crack Mideast team keep selling access to the U.S. Trump is not interested in the thousands of years of history there. He doesn’t care. He’s only transactional. This is an opportunity for Democrats to create a platform. Let’s hope they can do that. So far they have produced only epic failure.

Gaza

That is the plan. He wants to own those people. Take their land. He personally claimed he’ll oversee the operation — a clear sign of self-interest. He is a crooked businessman along with all of his family. The deal wasn’t struck by him but by his son-in-law, highlighting a family network profiting from the arrangement; this reeks of cronyism and corruption. I expect renewed bombing of Gaza, since people defend their homes and won’t willingly surrender land. Meanwhile, the extremist MAGA nut supporters hyped up by his rhetoric will get nothing from these deals; their loyalty is being exploited for someone else’s profit. This book is a good read explaining corruption.

Thanks you Olivia: So well scripted. Got me thinking about the treaty of versailles WW1. How the victors left Germany in the ditch. They let Germany shoulder all the guilt . Financial reparations to the Allied countries. Territorial losses. Military restrictions. formed a League of Nations: which excluded Germany. Seemed to have made Germany ripe territory for the birth of Nazism. I believe it was General Eisenhower that thought about the devastation of a conquered country and they came up with the Marshall plan in which they helped rebuild Germany and also aided Japan creating great Allies.,, It's almost like there are too many billionaires in the mix now to solve anything. They all seem to have ideas to gain more wealth for themselves. I think of Trump and Kushner. Gaza resorts and golf courses . Hotels and real estate. I have no trust in Netanyahu. I don't believe he wants peace. The return of the hostages was wonderful . I know Trump got mad at Netanyahu the other day and ranted at him to get some food into Gaga for the starving children.. Maybe this sped up the hostage release.

While Trump and his administration are an abomination, the U.S. hasn't always been "terrible" at rebuilding after war. I would call to mind the Marshall Plan in Europe and Japan after WW2. However, those were a higher caliber of people in charge.

Sure America can bring the peace. Turn the Trump Trust into a UN trust territory. Unite the world in establishing a just peace. Absent that, we return to the path to hell.

Trump is taking credit for what Biden has in place. Look at the records. It was held up until after the election.

✨BRAVO, Olivia✨!! 🇺🇸🗽Not only eloquent but an opinion piece grounded in facts supported history, brilliant clarity and as much comprehension as any of your devoted fellow citizens could hope for!!

A keeper, for sure!! Tragically truthful, unbearably sad, endlessly frustrating and prescient as your accurate writing is; I will rest in hope that past is not prologue in this time in Gaza. 🕯️🍃☮️🍂🕊️

Elegant and very clear. Even our military knows it’s not suited to occupy. We never learn. Our one tru success was the Marshall plan following WWII, which took decades and billions, in 1945 dollars.

do your readers a favor and explain what has changed from the "nation building" the US accomplished under the Marshall Plan (despite its generating the Military/Industrial Complex that Ike warned us about as he left the Presidency) and our inability to repeat that since.
