Thank you Olivia. We need this information in this context.

Wonderful piece Olivia, and thanks for mentioning the importance of fertilizer. My whole career was based on the agricultural industry, and most people have no idea how any reduction in nitrogen will negatively affect food production here at home and abroad. It could be devastating, especially in developing countries.

Thanks Olivia for sharing your wealth of experience and expertise and for reminding us of the story everyone else is not reporting on fertilizer.

Wow, fertilizer. Who woulda thunk that? Lots of knock on effects to play out from this self-imposed hubris-driven Iran debacle. Thanks Olivia.

Thank you Olivia- wonderful analysis, we can always count on you.

Another terrific piece. Thanks again, Olivia.

This is the clearest explanation yet why all past presidents have been “weak” when it comes to Iran. Nope. They foresaw the consequences; the dim bulbs in the admin and Congress seemed to have missed them.

Larry Rosen's avatar

Congress was not consulted (not that it would have made a difference)

Scott Whitmire's avatar

If they had been consulted, the consequences would have been brought up, for sure.

"The Story Most People Are Missing: Fertilizer."

Olivia is correct. I have not heard a single word about the global loss of fertilizer due to closing the SOH. We all will be casualties of this obnoxious "war."

So a humanitarian crisis, plus archeology controlling people, plus inhumanity, plus lonliness and isolation. This is how the eorld ends. 10, 9, 8, ....

To save lives and to bring the cost of living down to humanitarian values, get all of the MAGA regime out of USA government... Instead of talking about it tell us what are you going to do about ot and how we can stop the idiots in Washington DC?

Hiding under covers

Nobody's missing fertilizer story.. covers white house.

And fewer yet are believing the BS being thrown our/their way by this lunatic president.

The IEA has coordinated the largest release of oil reserves ever, where 32 member countries are releasing 400 million barrels to dampen the rising prices as a result of the conflict in Iran.

Will there be rationing like in India, where you fill up every other day, or will it be replaced with Russian oil? Does Norway have oil left over? How would rationing affect the stock market?

Robot Bender's avatar

I was a teen during the 1970s oil crisis. We had even/odd days and even limits on how much gas you could buy. It shook the stock market and inflation spiked.

PlasticFish's avatar

I was also there, and recall the same.

Colleen Wetteland's avatar

Yes, food and everything will increase because of the gas prices being higher! In my town gas went up a dollar a gallon from week before this started and the next week. I'm glad I have a hybrid but I still need gas too!

The farmers voted for The Felon & he'll give them tax payer funded bailouts just like he did when the tariffs adversely affected them. They will continue to vote for Republicans.

Thanks for connecting the dots, Olivia.

If one didn't know better, one might think all these consequences were omissions by our own regime. For the most part, I imagine that's the case.

However, in the realm of dictators needing to sow chaos and division, there's a part of me that wonders if it's actually be design. It's a long line of dominoes ready to fall, as you point out here. Coincidence, or intentional, for the trump crime family?? Hmmm, hard to say for sure.
